Assessing the toxicity of peracetic acid to early Atlantic salmon Salmo salar life‐stages

چکیده

Bacterial and fungal pathogens in recirculating aquaculture egg incubation systems can cause elevated mortality decreased production. Peracetic acid (PAA) is a relatively low-cost, safe, effective disinfectant; however, its toxicity to early life stages of the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) has not been assessed. The 24-h LC50 value PAA was determined for three salmon: eyed eggs, fry (~0.17 g), fingerlings (~16.3 g). values were calculated using Trimmed Spearman-Karber (TSK) method Toxicity Relationship Analysis Program (TRAP). TRAP eggs treated 5 10 min 781.5 485.0 mg/L PAA, respectively, while TSK 771.1 462.1 respectively. 4.0 5.3 fingerling 4.1 no observed effect concentration (NOEC) 500 300 These NOEC provide guidance developing safe treatment protocols fry, and/or fingerlings.

Salmon lice increase the age of returning Atlantic salmon.

The global increase in the production of domestic farmed fish in open net pens has created concerns about the resilience of wild populations owing to shifts in host-parasite systems in coastal ecosystems. However, little is known about the effects of increased parasite abundance on life-history traits in wild fish populations. Here, we report the results of two separate studies in which 379 779...

Atlantic salmon – Salmo salar

Distribution Th e species’ range encompasses Europe, North America, and Green land (1) (Fig.1). Non-anadromous forms occur in Europe in a few land-locked locations in Norway and Sweden, and throughout the Neva/Lake Ladoga system and Karelia regions of Russia. In North America non-anadromous forms occurred throughout most of the species’ historical range, as far west as Lake Ontario, and remain ...

Assessing risks of invasion through gamete performance: farm Atlantic salmon sperm and eggs show equivalence in function, fertility, compatibility and competitiveness to wild Atlantic salmon

Adaptations at the gamete level (a) evolve quickly, (b) appear sensitive to inbreeding and outbreeding and (c) have important influences on potential to reproduce. We apply this understanding to problems posed by escaped farm salmon and measure their potential to reproduce in the wild. Farm Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) are a threat to biodiversity, because they escape in large numbers and can ...
